I am an old soul. I have difficulty embracing this modern world and its trends and technologies. I usually go kicking and screaming into it, all the while wishing I could display the grace and dignity I so admire in others. Imagine my surprise when Prom season rolled around and I was face to face with a VERY modern interpretation of an old-fashioned idea! Three very modern, confident young women requested floral accessories for their CosPlay Prom theme. Thanks to Google ( my sometimes nemesis), I knew what CosPlay was, so that was one giant advantage, but next was trying to find a way to take the sweet, demure little corsages that meant “prom” and transform them into an extension of the characters. I would like to think I did the interpretations justice, but beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, so I shall leave that judgement to each gentle reader. What awed me though was the grace and confidence of these girls on the brink of womanhood. High school “norms” can be brutal, and these three stepped boldly outside of that box, threw themselves into the harsh limelight of high school scrutiny, and commanded respect for themselves. It was a beautiful thing to be a part of, and I am so hopeful for our future. For myself, I do solemnly swear that I will try my best to stay up to “new” good. As for Elsa, Galinda, and Elphaba; you amaze me, and I look forward to seeing your stars shining brightly in the future!
